Architalk Series 2024 - Bridging the Gap
On November 22, Francis Kéré delivered a lecture as part of the Architalk series hosted by the International House of Japan (I-House) in Tokyo. In his talk, Kéré spoke on his architectural journey, highlighting his commitment to regenerative methods, and the integration of local knowledge and materials. He also discussed the nuances and challenges of adapting these principles to diverse geographies and their specific contexts.
Following the lecture, the discussion was enriched by responses from Kazuyo Sejima of SANAA, the 2010 Pritzker Prize laureate, and architect Sou Fujimoto. Moderated by Yuko Hasegawa, I-House’s Director of Art and Design Programs, the panel explored architecture’s evolving role in addressing environmental and social challenges, as well as the inspiration Kéré’s work offers within a Japanese context.
The Architalk series is part of I-House’s broader mission to promote international understanding through cultural and intellectual exchange.
