Las Vegas Museum of Art

news · September, 11th 2024

Kéré Architecture has been commissioned to design the new Las Vegas Museum of Art (LVMA). This project will transform a 1.5-acre site in downtown Las Vegas into a cultural hub. The museum, a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)and Elaine Wynn, President of the Board of Trustees of LVMA is set to be a new landmark institution for the city.

Situated on Smith Avenue in Symphony Park, the LVMA will be nestled between the Smith Center for the Performing Arts and the Discovery Children’s Museum. Our design for the 8.500 square-metre museum will feature two floors of exhibition space elevated above a plaza and an adjacent sculpture park.

This design will incorporate elements that reflect the distinctive landscape of Las Vegas and the surrounding desert, drawing inspiration from historical sites such as the Guardian Angel Cathedral.

Francis Kéré said, “Our design blends the beauty of the
desert environment with local building principles and the passion and collaborative spirit
of the Las Vegas Museum of Art to create a space where dreams come to life. It is a
tremendous honor, and a highlight of my professional journey, to create a space that will
bring art and joy to the residents who call Las Vegas home.”

The LVMA is scheduled to open its doors in 2028.
