The Àlvaro Siza Talks 2024
On November 13, Francis Kéré delivered the inaugural lecture for the sixth edition of The Álvaro Siza Talks at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art. His engaging keynote set the tone for three days of rich discussions on contemporary architecture.
This year’s theme, Essential Conversations, focused on examining the foundational values of architecture, drawing inspiration from the work of Álvaro Siza. Building on this topic, Kéré explored the influence of Siza as an inspiration and a mentor, sharing insights into how the great master’s work has shaped his own practice.
The event brought together architects, students, and enthusiasts to reflect on architecture’s capacity to address the essence of problems, places, and cultures. Contributions from distinguished architects—including Roberto Collovà, María González, Ricardo Bak Gordon, Jaume Mayol, Smiljan Radic, and Inge Vinck—enriched the discussions. Organised by the Serralves Foundation in collaboration with the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Talks once again provided a vital platform for meaningful exchange within the architectural community.
